Chanel has appointed Marie-Laure Cérède as director of its jewelry creation studio.
Cérède will oversee its precious jewelry and high jewelry portfolio in collaboration with teams in Paris and Geneva, Chanel said Wednesday. She will report to Frédéric Grangié, president of watches and fine jewelry.
She started her career at Cartier before moving to Harry Winston, where she led the artistic direction of the brand’s jewelry and watchmaking activities. Cérède returned to Cartier in 2016, serving as creative director of jewelry and watchmaking for almost 10 years.
“We are thrilled to welcome Cérède to Chanel,” said Grangié. “Her approach to creativity as a delicate balance between heritage, emotion, audacity and restraint will bring a new perspective to the Chanel codes that define our unique creations. [Her] imagination and deep expertise in craft and knowledge of gemology will take Chanel in exciting new directions.”
Cérède will start her new position in October.
