Cartier Promotes US Exec Mercedes Abramo

Mercedes Abramo, CEO of Cartier North America, has stepped up into the role of deputy chief commercial officer for Cartier International, effective March 1.

With the transition, Abramo will become a permanent member of the Cartier International executive committee. Meanwhile, Walter Bolognino, a Bulgari executive, will join Cartier North America as its new CEO on March 1.

In her new role, Abramo will be responsible for defining and implementing Cartier’s strategies around the world and the brand’s global commercial performance, network development and pricing. She will be based in Geneva and will report to Renaud Litré, chief platforms officer of parent company Richemont and senior vice president and chief commercial officer at Cartier International. In her capacity as a member of the Cartier International executive committee, she will also report to CEO Cyrille Vigneron.

Bolognino will be responsible for all commercial and marketing activities in North America. He will be based in New York and will report to Abramo.

Abramo joined Cartier North America more than 14 years ago. She has held several retail leadership positions, including serving as the director of the flagship Fifth Avenue Mansion in New York and as vice president of retail, before assuming her most recent role as CEO.

Bolognino has more than 18 years of experience in customer relationship management (CRM), marketing and communications, and general management across Europe and Japan. He joins Cartier North America from Bulgari, where he most recently oversaw the operations across Europe and the Middle East as managing director for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). He previously served as president and CEO of Bulgari Japan.
