Bonhams saw strong bidding at its most recent jewelry sale in Paris as nine of the top 10 items soared past their high estimates.
The top lot, a Van Cleef & Arpels brooch clip from circa 1937 designed as a bow in Art Deco style, sold for EUR 178,200 ($207,777), over seven times its high estimate. Featuring baguette and brilliant-cut diamonds, it led the October 16 Paris Jewels sale, Bonhams said last week.
In total, the sale made EUR 1.8 million ($2.1 million), comprising 108 items, with 88% of lots selling. It included pieces from design houses such as Van Cleef & Arpels, Cartier, Bulgari, and Harry Winston.

These Van Cleef & Arpels ear clips more than doubled their EUR 25,000 ($29,149) high estimate to go for EUR 53,740 ($62,658). They feature circular-cut rubies and brilliant-cut diamonds.Another Van Cleef & Arpels piece, an Alhambra necklace with 20 coral four-leaf clovers, quadrupled its top asking price, bringing in EUR 48,640 ($56,712).This old brilliant-cut, 8.58-carat, N- to R-color, VS2-clarity diamond ring passed its EUR 30,000 ($34,979) top estimate to achieve EUR 48,640 ($56,712).A Cartier gold and diamond evening clutch, in woven design and featuring brilliant-cut diamonds, fetched EUR 40,960 ($47,757), within its price range.These Van Cleef & Arpels bombé design ear clips from around 1935, bearing pavé-set brilliant-cut diamonds between baguette stones, made more than over three times their high estimate, going under the hammer for EUR 40,960 ($47,757).This bracelet bears a cultured pearl between two brilliant-cut diamonds — a 3.22-carat, N to R, VS2 and a 3.32-carat, N to R, SI1 stone. Also featuring calibré-cut emeralds and rose-cut diamonds, it went for EUR 38,400 ($44,773), surpassing its EUR 30,000 ($34,979) high price.An additional Van Cleef & Arpels Alhambra necklace almost doubled its EUR 18,000 ($20,987) to garner EUR 35,840 ($41,788). It consists of 20 chrysoprase clover motifs on a gold cable-link chain. Bonhams sold this ring bearing an old brilliant-cut, 6.41-carat, N to R, SI1 diamond for EUR 35,840 ($41,788), well above its EUR 30,000 ($34,979) high price.This diamond bracelet sports a series of fancy waved links, set with old brilliant-cut stones. It smashed its EUR 18,000 ($20,987) high estimate to rake in EUR 32,000 ($37,310).
