Online auction house Auctim will offer more than 7.3 million carats of rough emeralds at an upcoming sale in Belgium.

The stones, which originate from a mine in Brazil, comprise 109 lots weighing nearly 1,500 kilograms, Auctim told Rapaport News. Approximately 10% of lots contain near-gem to gem-quality stones. The sale of the collection is part of a court-ordered liquidation.

“This sale stands out due to both the volume and the variety,” said Auctim CEO Christophe Moyersoen. “In addition to commercial-grade parcels, bidders will also discover premium material with strong cutting potential and color appeal.”

The auction, which will run from September 1 to 11, will enable participants to see bid amounts in real time rather than taking place as a sealed or silent tender. However, while the auction house has evaluated the emeralds and given them a starting price per lot, it has not yet determined the total value of the goods on offer.

“Given the exceptional volume and diversity of the lots, it is nearly impossible to assign a single meaningful estimate,” the company explained. “Ultimately, the true value will be defined by the market itself — through open and competitive bidding.”
