Anoop Mehta Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

Indian diamond executive Anoop Mehta received the Lifetime Achievement honor during the India Gem and Jewellery Awards 2023.

Mehta made his mark in the Indian diamond industry as chairman and managing director of Mohit Diamonds and president of the Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB), the diamond exchange said last week. A fourth-generation entrepreneur, Mehta is credited with the growth of Mohit Diamonds, expanding the company from Mumbai, India, to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and Gaborone, Botswana.

Mehta also transitioned Mohit Diamonds from a traditional diamond manufacturer to a vertically integrated company involved in rough-diamond procurement, cutting and polishing, diamond exports, and jewelry manufacturing.

As president and founding member of the BDB, he is considered instrumental in producing a sound infrastructure and business-friendly climate for its more than 6,000 members and 2,500 offices. He is also chairman of Gemmological Institute of India, a trade-run laboratory inside the BDB.

Mehta is seen as an ambassador for the Indian diamond sector, the exchange said. He represents the Indian diamond industry in several international forums, including the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB), where he is an executive committee member; the Dubai Diamond Conference; the World Diamond Council (WDC); and the International Diamond Manufacturers Association (IDMA), it noted.

The 49th India Gem and Jewellery Awards 2023 took place in Mumbai on April 23.
