Representatives from the Angolan ministry of minerals formed collaborations with diamond groups and companies at the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB) confab in New York.
During the meetings, the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas (Mirempet) revealed that the country planned to join the National Diamond Council (NDC) and the Angola Diamond Exchange as well as the WFDB, the ministry wrote on its Facebook page.
The government also met with Tiffany & Co. to discuss the possibility of a partnership that would see the jewelry company acquiring diamonds directly from Angola.
Additionally, Mirempet signed a memorandum of understanding with the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) for future cooperation in gemological training, diamond grading and services supporting transparent diamond trade in Angola.
Minister Diamantino Azevedo also met with Rapaport Group Chairman Martin Rapaport. During the visit they discussed opportunities for collaboration that would strengthen the promotion and valuation of Angolan diamonds in the global sector with a focus on ethics, transparency and competitive positioning.
