Bonas Group will offer $90 million in rough diamonds from various countries in four simultaneous tenders in Antwerp.
The sales, which will take place during the first week of September, will consist of 850,000 carats in more than 900 lots, carefully sorted by size, color and quality, the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC) said Monday.
The tender house expects more than 1,800 traders to attend the event and forecasts around 13,000 bids throughout the week. It sourced the diamonds, which weigh 170 kilograms, directly from major producing countries, including Botswana, Canada, Lesotho, Angola, Brazil, Namibia and Tanzania. Bonas will dedicate a total of 32 viewing rooms for the diamonds.
Goods will undergo up to 1,000 weight checks per day to ensure every stone is accounted for, while 191 surveillance cameras monitor the building where the auctions will occur.
“With the Diwali and global holiday season approaching, this tender week comes at a crucial moment for the international diamond industry,” the AWDC commented. “It’s the final moment that manufacturers and traders can seek quality rough that can be cut, polished and set in jewelry just in time for year-end peaks.”
