A 30.10-carat pink diamond was the star of a recent jewelry sale at Bonhams in Hong Kong, fetching HKD 20.4 million ($2.6 million).
The final sale price for the unmounted round brilliant-cut, very-light-pink, type IIa diamond was above its HKD 18 million ($2.3 million) presale high estimate, Bonhams said last week. The stone, which was on offer following a 50-year stint in a private collection, led the November 28 Hong Kong Jewels & Jadeite sale.
In total, the 160 lots on offer, including a number of colored diamonds and gemstones that surpassed their original price range, brought in HKD 69 million ($8.9 million).
“We are absolutely delighted with the sale results, which reflect the quality of the pieces offered and the continued strong demand for colored diamonds and gemstones,” said Stewart Young, director of jewelry and head of jewelry for Asia at Bonhams. “Particularly noteworthy is the outstanding result achieved for the exceptional 30.10-carat…pink. It was exciting to present the remarkable colored diamond at auction.”
