$20M Pink-Diamond Ring to Star at Sotheby’s

Sotheby’s will offer a pink diamond ring it expects to achieve around $20 million at its upcoming jewelry sale in Geneva.

Making its way to the auction block for the first time, the cushion brilliant-cut, 10.08-carat, fancy-vivid-pink diamond ring will be the star of the November 12 High Jewelry sale, Sotheby’s said Thursday. The cut, recently popularized by Taylor Swift’s engagement ring, is an important aspect of the ring, being only the third cushion-cut, vivid-pink diamond over 10 carats to come to auction in the past 10 years, Sotheby’s explained.

Called the Glowing Rose, after its luminous and pure pink color, the diamond was set into a ring by Boodles. The diamond originated from a 21-carat rough recovered in Angola in 2023, Sotheby’s stated.

The ring could score well above its estimate. In 2022, Sotheby’s sold the Williamson Pink Star, an 11.15-carat, fancy-vivid-pink, internally flawless diamond ring in Hong Kong for $57.7 million. Meanwhile, a 10.57-carat, fancy-vivid-purplish-pink diamond ring fetched $34.8 million at Sotheby’s New York in 2023. More recently, the auction house pulled in $21.5 million, above its asking price, for the Mediterranean Blue, a cushion-modified, 10.03-carat, fancy-vivid-blue diamond, which sold in Geneva in May.

“Building on the remarkable success of the Mediterranean Blue, we are thrilled to present another extraordinary fancy-colored diamond, this time an exceptional pink,” said Jessica Wyndham, head of high jewelry for Sotheby’s in Geneva. “With the current high global demand for rare colored diamonds, the chance to offer The Glowing Rose…makes this auction moment truly exciting.”

Sotheby’s will exhibit the jewel in Singapore and Taipei, Taiwan, prior to the Geneva sale.
