Mining Resumes at Lulo After Blockade Ends

Mining operations have restarted at the Lulo mine in Angola following the peaceful resolution of a blockade by local community leaders.

Lucapa Diamond Company, which holds a 40% interest in the mine, announced Thursday that processing had continued during the blockade, allowing diamond recoveries to remain on track for the month. Sociedade Mineira Do Lulo (SML), the operating entity, will now review its alluvial mining plan to mitigate the disruption’s impact.

The blockade, which ended on February 3, temporarily halted mining activities, though processing of stockpiled gravel and tailings ensured continued diamond production.

Additionally, the company will recommence bulk sampling, as it continues its search for new kimberlite pipes, it noted. It will also begin to process samples it had previously mined.
