The Cleopatra Diamonds

RAPAPORT…
The Cleopatra® Diamond, one of five branded diamond collections based on famous love stories, was created for the Leading Jewelers Guild, a member-only association of family-owned retail jewelers. Design patents are pending on all three shapes of the Cleopatra® Diamond — Princess, Round Brilliant and Marquise, proprietary interpretations of the classic round brilliant, princess and marquise cuts.

PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND CUTTING ISSUES

The Cleopatra® Princess has 107 facets, the Cleopatra® Round Brilliant has 137 facets and the Cleopatra® Marquise has 107 facets to yield superior brightness, scintillation and fire. Rough for the Cleopatras comes from Diamond Trading Company (DTC) boxes and other sources. Yield is about 34 percent. Color and clarity range from D to I and from VS to SI, respectively. Higher grades are available by special order. At present, sizes from 0.25 carats to 1-carat stones are stocked and are available for immediate delivery.

MARKETS AND MARKETING

Love Story® and the Cleopatra® Diamond are wholly owned and distributed exclusively by Leading Jewelers Guild members, who are traditionally middle-market jewelers, although many are transitioning into higher-end “superstore” operations. Members do their own advertising; however, Love Story® also provides radio and television spots, ad copy and a complete graphics service. Leading Jewelers Guild advertises in the trades; about a quarter of that budget is dedicated to Love Story®. Leading Jewelers Guild as a group dedicates a certain budget annually to national advertising. Currently, this is being used on advertising and search engine optimization for love-story.com, a consumer-oriented website.

The Cleopatra® comes laser-inscribed with the “Love Story® logo” on one side and the “Cleopatra® Diamond logo” on the other. A certificate of authenticity is provided along with the Global Gemological Laboratory (GGL) Comprehensive Diamond Report with Light Performance Report and the Love Story® Lifetime Limited Warranty.

PRICING AND SUPPLY

A 0.50 carat has been advertised in the guild’s catalog at $2,600 in the signature mounting. There are no supply issues for normally stocked sizes.

WHAT BUYERS SHOULD LOOK FOR

The Cleopatra® Diamond’s performance scores excellent or better in dispersion, scintillation and brilliance on the GGL Comprehensive Diamond Report with Light Performance Report. The Cleopatra® Princess has more fire and light dispersion in corners than an ordinary princess. Light return is intensified in the Cleopatra® Round Brilliant. There is elimination of “bow tie” on the Cleopatra® Marquise cut.
