RAPAPORT… Christie’s sold a 24.45-carat diamond pendant for $2 million at its recent online auction, the second-highest price the company has achieved for a jewel sold online.
The heart-shaped, D-color, internally flawless, type IIa stone fell within its presale estimate at the August 4 to 18 Summer Sparkle sale, the company said last week. In total, the auction brought in $5.1 million.
An emerald-cut, 28.86-carat, VVS1-clarity, type IIa diamond ring, which sold for $2.1 million in July 2020, holds the record for the highest price Christie’s has garnered for a jewel online. Meanwhile, a 50.03-carat, G-color, VVS2-clarity diamond that sold for $2.7 million at Sotheby’s in June earned the highest sum paid for a jewel at any online auction.
Another top item at the August sale was the Summer Sunrise, a round-cornered rectangular modified brilliant-cut, 9.83-carat, fancy-vivid-orange-yellow, VS1-clarity diamond ring, which brought in $810,000, just above its high estimate.
Christie’s also offered a number of diamonds without reserve. An emerald-cut, 10.08-carat, H-color, VS1-clarity diamond ring went for $325,000, beating its $300,000 upper valuation, while an oval brilliant-cut, 6.29-carat, D-color, internally flawless diamond ring sold for $237,500, missing its $250,000 low estimate.
Colored diamonds were also popular at the auction, Christie’s noted.
