The Community for Ethical Jewelry (CEJ) has appointed Marianna Smirnova as its new executive director.
With more than 18 years of experience, Smirnova has built expertise in sustainability, human rights, responsible sourcing, due diligence and mineral supply chains, the organization said Monday. In her most recent role, she was the adviser to the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) and the Global Battery Alliance (GBA), after holding leadership positions at the Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI).
Smirnova will begin her tenure by meeting with members throughout CEJ to familiarize herself with their priorities, challenges and aspirations for the organization. The feedback she gathers will help guide CEJ’s work moving forward and support its ongoing efforts to create value for members and the industry.
“Together, we can drive lasting change that benefits jewelers, artisanal and small-scale producers, Indigenous peoples, local communities, and all those whose livelihoods are connected to our industry,” said Smirnova.
CEJ is a nonprofit organization that focuses on fostering responsible jewelry practices through education, connection and action. Its aims to create a jewelry sector in which creating products does not negatively impact people or the environment.
