An emerald and diamond necklace led the recent Bonhams auction in Hong Kong, where it fetched HKD 6.1 million ($778,404).
The jewel, from around 1950, features alternating old European, round brilliant and baguette-cut diamonds. The front showcases a graduating fringe of step-cut Colombian emeralds with a total weight of 50.75 carats as well as marquise-cut diamonds, connected by round brilliant-cut diamonds. The necklace comprises a total of 37.55 carats of diamonds. It beat its HKD 5.5 million ($701,832) high estimate at the Exceptional Jewels and Jadeite live auction, according to the Bonhams website.
The auction included many lots featuring colored gemstones such as jadeite, emerald and rubies, as well as pearls.
