A ring bearing a 5.72-carat sapphire stole the show at the recent Sotheby’s auction in London, where it sold for GBP 512,000 ($688,112), almost three times its upper price.
The jewel centers a cushion-shaped Kashmir sapphire in a frame comprising eight brilliant-cut diamonds. It surpassed its GBP 180,000 ($242,080) high estimate at the June 3 Fine Jewelry sale, according to the auction house’s website.
In total, the sale garnered GBP 4.9 million ($6.6 million). The auction house found buyers for lots from well-known design houses such as Van Cleef & Arpels, Bulgari, and Cartier.

Estimate: GBP 50,000 to GBP 80,000 ($67,248 to $107,610)
A necklace with 209 natural saltwater pearls in two graduating rows. Its clasp bears an old marquise-cut, 2.17-carat, L-color, SI-clarity diamond between old brilliant-cut diamond terminals.

Estimate: GBP 100,000 to GBP 150,000 ($134,512 to $201,775)
A ring with a brilliant-cut, 8.03-carat, G-color, VS2-clarity diamond and curved baguette shoulders.

Estimate: GBP 85,000 to GBP 130,000 ($114,339 to $174,877)
A ring offered with no reserve features a radiant-cut, 10.22-carat, fancy-intense-yellow, VVS1 diamond between two trapeze-shaped stones.

Estimate: GBP 60,000 to GBP 100,000 ($80,712 to $134,512)
A bracelet comprising 36 emerald-cut diamonds, ranging from 1 to 1.04 carats, D to F color, and VVS1 to VS2 clarity, with a total weight of 34.36 carats.
