Jewelers of America (JA) and Manufacturing Jewelers and Suppliers of America (MJSA) will join forces, encouraging an integrated approach to industry growth by uniting the cutting and retail sectors.

The affiliation agreement the parties forged will bring the manufacturing group under JA’s umbrella, allowing the organizations to maximize their membership benefits and address the industry’s top challenges together, they said recently. Both groups’ boards approved the partnership, and MJSA’s members okayed it in a mid-April vote.

The collaboration “will only strengthen our ability to advocate for our shared interests,” said MJSA board chair Edward DeCristofaro. “The traditional lines dividing manufacturers and retailers have disappeared — both sides now face many of the same challenges, as the recent tariffs have shown…. Also, as more retailers continue to broaden their offerings to include everything from branded lines to custom designs, MJSA can provide a direct line to needed supplies, equipment, and expertise.”

Under the contract, MJSA will continue connecting businesses with jewelry-making supplies, services and educational resources.  Members will receive benefits and gain access to JA’s extensive retail network and service. The MJSA Education Foundation will maintain its own board while aligning programs such as the MJSA Mentor & Apprenticeship Program with JA’s education and certification programs assisting new talents to enter the trade.

The parties expect to finalize the agreement in late May.
