Retail jeweler Underwood’s has appointed longtime manager and executive Michael Richards as president.
Richards started his industry career in high school at Harper’s Jewelry while taking classes at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), Underwood’s said Monday. He joined Underwood’s in 1990 as a store manager, becoming the company’s vice president in 2008 and chief operating officer in 2018.
In his role as president, which he officially began on July 1, he is responsible for carrying out the Florida-based company’s vision, running its daily operations and leading corporate culture.
Richards’s predecessor in the position, Clayton Bromberg, had been president and chairman of Underwood’s since 1988. He will retain the latter role, continuing to influence the company’s strategic directions, merchandising, and diamond buying.
“As we look ahead to the next 10 years and embark on this new chapter, I am excited about the opportunities ahead for Underwood’s,” said Bromberg. “We will continue to innovate while staying true to the principles that have made us a trusted name in jewelry for nearly a century.”
