A sapphire and diamond ring fetched more than 21 times its upper price tag at a recent Sotheby’s sale in Geneva, bringing in CHF 384,000 ($487,943).
The piece, which features a step-cut, 8.40-carat Kashmir sapphire between triangular diamonds, had a presale estimate of CHF 12,000 to CHF 18,000 ($15,248 to $22,872), according to the Sotheby’s website. In total, the Geneva Fine Jewelry sale, which ran from April 29 to May 14, garnered CHF 9.2 million ($11.7 million).
Many of the items on offer also made many times their estimates, including an unmounted 3.41-carat ruby, which brought in CHF 108,800 ($138,250) against a top price of CHF 40,000 ($50,827). Meanwhile, a diamond parure from Schreiner sold for CHF 102,400 ($130,118), beating its upper estimate of CHF 30,000 ($38,121) and a Cartier gold, emerald and diamond brooch achieved CHF 70,400 ($88,456), well above its CHF 15,000 ($19,060) high price.

Estimate: CHF 150,000 to CHF 220,000 ($190,603 to $279,551)
A necklace composed of a row of 55 graduated step-cut diamonds, weighing a total of 61.72 carats.

Estimate: CHF 40,000 to CHF 60,000 ($50,827 to $76,241)
This Schreiner parure comprises a necklace designed as a graduated series of flowers, with tapered baguette and brilliant-cut diamonds; a crossover bangle; and a pair of earrings.
