A manufacturing supervisor at a luxury jewelry company was sentenced for stealing more than $1.7 million in gold, silver and platinum from his employer.

US District Court Judge Angel Kelley ordered Benjamin Preacher, whose LinkedIn states he has worked for Tiffany & Co. since 2018, to 59 days in prison. After completion of the period, Preacher will serve two years of supervised release, including 10 months of home confinement and 200 hours of community service, the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts said Wednesday. The government had recommended 30 months in prison.

Preacher, who worked at the jeweler’s Rhode Island-based manufacturing facility, “used his position overseeing the production and security of high-end jewelry to steal scrap precious metals,” the US Attorney’s Office said.  He then drove the stolen metals into Massachusetts and sold them to various businesses.

In June 2024, Preacher pleaded guilty to one count of interstate transportation of stolen goods and one count of engaging in unlawful monetary transactions, the office added.
