Trans Atlantic Gem Sales (TAGS) sold more than $16 million worth of rough diamonds at its recent tender, with 60% of goods finding buyers.
The sale, which took place from February 16 to 20 in Dubai, featured a “full range” of size categories and qualities, with an emphasis on rough above 5 carats, TAGS said last week. More than 100 companies attended the event, and 46 placed winning bids.
TAGS observed the strongest bidding in larger sizes and higher qualities. There was good demand for diamonds weighing 10 carats and up, as well as for those between 5 and 10 carats. Meanwhile, polished stones in the 0.75- to 1.50-carat range saw a “resurgence,” primarily since De Beers adjusted their prices last month, TAGS explained. Goods below 0.75 carats showed increased interest, up from the end of 2025 when most customers were not even interested in looking at those sizes, TAGS added.
The company was due to hold a tender of South African production from March 1 to 6 in Dubai, but that sale is now scheduled for March 9 to 11 due to the Iran conflict and the cancellation of flights in the United Arab Emirates. A separate sale of output from the Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC) will run from March 8 to 12.
