A Chaumet necklace is the top lot at the upcoming Christie’s Paris online jewelry sale, where it has an upper estimate of EUR 600,000 ($670,000).
The piece contains three rows of round and oval natural pearls, and a clasp of rectangular and round brilliant-cut diamonds weighing a total of 0.80 carats, Christie’s said Tuesday. The Joaillerie Paris online sale, which will take place from June 19 to 27, will feature several prominent items from famous design houses, including Chaumet, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Boucheron.
Christie’s will also offer a brooch from a royal collection. The piece, which contains diamonds and natural pearls, was created in the 1830s and once belonged to Empress Caroline Augusta of Bavaria, the last wife of Emperor Francis I of Austria. Her daughter-in-law, Marie-Clémentine of Habsburg-Lorraine, archduchess of Austria and princess of Salerno, last owned the jewel. The brooch has an upper estimate of EUR 80,000 ($91,225) and is accompanied by a period book in gold and mother-of-pearl detailing the provenance and dating of the jewel.
