A number of colored diamonds feature in the top 10 lots Sotheby’s will offer at its upcoming jewelry auction in New York, which also includes a Graff diamond ring expected to bring in up to $3 million.
The piece, which bears an emerald-cut, 35.01-carat, D-color, VVS-clarity diamond center stone, flanked by a pair of triangle-shaped diamonds, will lead the June 13 High Jewelry sale, Sotheby’s said Thursday.
The auction will also feature several private collections. The first has four pieces from the estate of Emily Vanderbilt Wade, the daughter of former Rhode Island governor William Henry Vanderbilt III, and the great-granddaughter of Cornelius Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt Wade was also the wife of Jeptha Wade III, the grandson of Western Union founder Jeptha Homer Wade.
Meanwhile, Sotheby’s will also offer a group of 13 jewels from a distinguished private collector, called Joie de Vivre: A Journey in Jewels. The name comes from the fact that each piece was a gift from a husband to his wife over the course of their more than 60-year marriage. The collection includes pieces from well-known design houses, including Graff and David Webb.
A group of five Art Nouveau jewels by René Lalique will also be up for sale.
