In the coming year, Chow Tai Fook plans to introduce collections made purely from recycled precious metals, making it the first Chinese jewelry brand to do so, according to the company.

The move comes as the jeweler works to improve its sustainability by 2049, it said last week. As part of that process, it will cut overall emissions by 50% before 2030 and plans to be net-zero by 2049. The company will also minimize the use of harmful chemicals in its production process and reduce the environmental impact of its packaging by 50% by 2030, it stated.

With record gold prices impacting buyer trends, Chow Tai Fook aims to strengthen partnerships with organizations like the World Gold Council (WGC) to develop responsible practices, it said.

“As the first Chinese jewelry brand to introduce products crafted from 100% recycled gold, we are setting a new industry standard and actively sharing our expertise with peers and partners,” said Chow Tai Took vice chairman Sonia Cheng. “We look forward to strengthening collaborations with partners to develop transformative, responsible practices that will reshape the future of our industry.

The launch of recycled gold products coincides with a broader trend toward the purchase of 100% gold jewelry products in China and Hong Kong, amid declining diamond demand. Chow Tai Fook’s sales fell 21% year on year during the second fiscal quarter as demand for diamonds waned.
