The Independent Jewelers Organization (IJO) introduced its 2008 Master IJO Jeweler Exclusive Collection at an editor’s event in New York City. The pieces in the collection are selected by IJO members based on design, price and appeal. Twelve new pieces were added to the collection this year and are available nationwide at Master IJO Jewelers. The collection features channel-set diamond bands, diamond pendants and pearl and colored gemstone jewelry. Renaissance Diamonds Inc. launched a line of jewelry featuring its patented, proprietary shape, the Renaissance Cut made from Gemesis created diamonds. The new shape is a combination of the cushion and Asscher cuts. The jewelry will also showcase the 80’s Cut, a round brilliant made to release more fire and color through its specialized faceting. The stones are set in 18-karat gold and palladium.
The American Jewelry Design Council (AJDC) is accepting applications for its annual New Talent Contest. Applicants must be the owner/designer of a jewelry manufacturing business who produces in the U. S. and who has never exhibited at a JA show. The winner is chosen based on five criteria: originality, craftsmanship, innovation, marketability and cohesiveness. The winner is given a free booth at the JA New York Summer Show and professional support from AJDC members on stepping into larger markets. Deadline for applications is January 15, 2008. In other competition news, the Manufacturing Jewelers & Suppliers of America (MJSA) put out a call for entries to it 17th Annual Vision Awards Design Competition. The competition is open to professionals and students, and entries are accepted in several categories, including Enamel Distinction, Platinum Distinction, Natural Color Diamond Distinction, CAD/CAM Distinction, Palladium Distinction, Laser Distinction, Mokumé-gane Distinction and Reactive Metals Distinction.
