The African Diamond Producers Association (ADPA) and the Harry Oppenheimer Diamond Training School (HODTS) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to expand educational opportunities in the African diamond industry.

The agreement, which the parties signed on Monday, establishes a framework for collaboration on curriculum development, specialized training programs and the promotion of best practices in diamond evaluation, processing and trade, the ADPA said Monday. It also includes joint initiatives, such as workshops, seminars and research projects, to promote innovation and local beneficiation across Africa.

The partnership is initially for a three-year period, with biannual review meetings to evaluate progress and explore opportunities to increase the efforts. Both organizations expect the cooperation to deliver long-term benefits for the African diamond sector by strengthening its technical expertise, promoting value addition and supporting sustainable economic growth and employment across the continent, it added.

“Education has always been the greatest catalyst for transformation,” said Neil Rademeyer, director of HODTS. “This partnership represents a shared vision between ADPA and the [HODTS]: that Africa should be known not merely as the source of diamonds, but as the home of world-class expertise, innovation and excellence throughout the entire diamond value chain.”
