Kering has named the first cohort of the new design-residency program it launched to strengthen ties between the Chinese and international communities.

Kering developed its CRAFT program, which stands for Creative Residency for Artisanship, Fashion and Technology, in collaboration with Shanghai Fashion Week, the group said last week. Focused on fashion and jewelry, the program chose the 10 designers for their creative styles, innovative skills and business potential. Kering, Shanghai Fashion Week and the Kering CRAFT advisory board, comprising experts from the luxury, fashion and creative sectors, jointly selected the members, which include three jewelry designers.

Under the guidance of industry experts, the program combines hands-on learning, mentorship and cultural exchange to support craftsmanship, innovation, business development and sustainability. It will also help emerging Chinese brands grow both in local relevance and international appeal, Kering added.

“We are grateful to the Kering CRAFT advisory board and Shanghai Fashion Week for their invaluable support in selecting this inaugural cohort of 10 exceptional fellows,” said Kering greater China president Cai Jinqing. “Their creative passion, distinct perspectives, outstanding abilities and exceptional potential embody China’s new generation of creators.”

The program aims to support the company’s focus on emerging talent and deepen connections between the Chinese and global creative communities. It will take place across Paris, Milan and Shanghai.
