Canada-based jeweler Birks Group’s sales rose over the November-December holiday period in both its retail and online stores.

Net sales were up 12% year on year for the eight weeks that ended December 27, the jeweler said last week. Comparable-store sales grew 2.5%.

The group attributed its improvement to the purchase of the European Boutique luxury watches and jewelry stores in July as well as to higher sales of branded timepieces and Birks jewelry items.

“Our teams have delivered good sales results this holiday period as compared to the corresponding period last year, due in part to the acquisition of the European Boutique stores but also due to our strong retail and e-commerce performances,” said Birks interim CEO Niccolò Rossi di Montelera. “We are focused on building on this momentum and on delivering excellence in customer service.”
