Gold exploration company Tectonic Metals has appointed former Lucara Diamond Corp. CEO Eira Thomas as chair of its board of directors.

As board chair, Thomas, who is also a cofounder of the business, will help Tectonic transition through its expansion and help it achieve long-term value for shareholders, it said Monday.

Thomas left Lucara — a company she cofounded in 2007 — two years ago, when the miner brought back former chief William Lamb, who it felt was better suited to manage the transition to underground mining. Earlier in her career, Thomas led the team that discovered Canada’s Diavik diamond mine, and cofounded and headed Stornoway Diamond Corporation. She also has previous experience in the gold sector, having served as president and CEO of Kaminak Gold Corporation.

“[Thomas’s] impact at Kaminak was transformative — she took a strong exploration story and shaped it into a development-ready asset that attracted a $520 million acquisition, all within three years and in a challenging gold market,” said Tectonic CEO Tony Reda. “Having someone with her track record and strategic clarity join as chair is an important milestone for Tectonic as we advance the Flat Gold Project.”
