Angelo Palmieri, president of GCAL by Sarine, joined two US retailers on the latest Rapaport webinar to discuss the New York-based lab’s premium cut grade, 8X.
Sponsored by GCAL, the session dug into how 8X could help single out the best-cut diamonds, distinguishing them from stones with a standard triple-Ex score. It also addressed consumers’ diamond-cut knowledge, the issues surrounding cut grades for fancy shapes, and how polishing an 8X diamond impacts its yield.
The webinar featured two jewelers who had used 8X: Randall Cole, CEO at Diamond Vault of Troy in Troy, Michigan, and Paul Cassarino, president of The Gem Lab in Rochester, New York.
Event host Joshua Freedman, Rapaport’s senior analyst, also asked how the merger between Gem Certification & Assurance Lab (GCAL) and Sarine Technologies was going and how tariffs had affected the grading process, while the retailers gave an update on the ongoing holiday season.
