A ring with a 6.92-carat sapphire brought in just over $1 million at the latest Bonhams jewelry auction in New York — more than twice its $500,000 high estimate.
The cushion-shaped Kashmir sapphire sits in an openwork gold mounting along with two emerald-cut diamonds weighing 2.34 and 2.62 carats respectively. The piece took center stage at the December 8 New York Jewels auction, Bonhams said Tuesday.
The sale totaled over $5 million, with successful lots including jewels from Tiffany & Co., David Webb and Cartier.
