An Art Deco sugarloaf cabochon sapphire and diamond ring will headline an upcoming Christie’s jewelry sale in New York, where it’s expected to rake in up to $2.5 million.
The 17.66-carat Rockefeller Kashmir will go under the hammer at the December 10 Magnificent Jewels auction, Christie’s said last week. The piece is part of a wider selection of property from Mr. and Mrs. John D. Rockefeller 3rd that Sandra Ferry Rockefeller preserved. The collection also comprises Asian art and ceramics, American paintings, decorative arts, and modern and postwar masters, and will go on sale across a series of New York auctions at Christie’s.
A share of the Rockefeller proceeds will go to Sandra Ferry Rockefeller’s foundation, which supports programs that empower young people from diverse backgrounds to connect, inspire one another, and recognize their potential to make a positive impact on society.
“The Rockefeller family’s legacy of stewardship and philanthropy is embodied in this group of paintings and works of art,” said Jonathan Rendell, a consultant at Christie’s Americas. “Cherished for generations, they now return to the world to be appreciated anew.”
Christie’s will also showcase historic and modern pieces at the Magnificent Jewels sale. The auction house will offer items from major design houses such as JAR, Cartier and David Webb.
