Colored Diamonds Rule Sotheby’s Geneva Sales

Sotheby’s will showcase several high-value colored diamonds as the top lots of its upcoming sales in Geneva, including a blue diamond it has priced at up to CHF 5.8 million ($7.3 million).

The unmounted oval-mixed-cut, 4.50-carat, fancy-vivid-blue, internally flawless diamond will take center stage at the November 12 High Jewelry sale, along with the Glowing Rose, a cushion-cut, 10.08-carat, fancy-vivid-pink diamond ring the auction house estimates will bring in up to $20 million.

Meanwhile, the auction house will hold its Royal & Noble Jewels sale concurrently in Geneva, featuring items that belonged to Napoleon Bonaparte, as well as those from a cousin of Louis XVI, and from Neslishah Sultan, the last Ottoman princess.

It can create two brooches, six hairpins and two tiaras. The jewel is part of a set with a brooch designed as a ribbon and featuring old mine-cut diamonds and a pearl. Coming from a European noble family, the pearls were initially the property of Prince Franz Xaver of Saxony and Poland, whose daughter was a cousin of King Louis VXI of France at Sotheby's image

Empress Catherine I of Russia presented it as a gift to the Ottoman Sultan Ahmed III during negotiations for the Treaty of the Pruth in 1711. It has a top price of CHF 400,000 ($502,834).
