Pop icon Taylor Swift and football star Travis Kelce officially announced their engagement on Tuesday, immediately capturing global attention by unveiling a vintage-inspired natural-diamond ring.
The celebrity couple broadcast the news via a post on Swift’s Instagram account, which included a close-up of the star’s Victorian-style ring — reportedly a collaboration with designer Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry.
The ring’s antique elongated cushioncut diamond, which experts are estimating at up to 10 carats, sits in a handcrafted setting of 18-karat yellow gold. The design includes delicate needlepoint prongs, accent diamonds, and ornate engravings.
“With its exceptionally high clarity and such a rare, unique cut, the ring’s value would be estimated at around $750,000,” commented Natural Diamond Council expert Grant Mobley following the engagement.
Even De Beers CEO Al Cook praised the stone in a celebratory LinkedIn post. The diamond-industry exec congratulated the couple and identified the diamond as an old mine cut, which “is rarely seen these days, but the design goes all the way back to the 18th century. The facets follow the shape of the rough diamond and are positioned to bring out the depth and beauty of the stone.”
With fans enthusing over the ring, he predicted, “we can now expect a resurgence in old mine cuts and other heritage ring designs.”
