Diamonds that Make the World a Better Place®

Our goal is to identify and certify diamonds, gems, and jewelry that make the world a better place. We do this by applying and certifying auditable ethical sourcing and traceability standards.

What are GreenSource Diamonds?

GreenSource Diamonds are ethically sourced, responsibly mined, and traceable back to their origin. They support the communities where they’re discovered and meet Rapaport’s strict ethical sourcing and traceability standards—ensuring they truly make the world a better place.

Benefits of GreenSource Certification

Knowing where your diamonds come from is essential. (1) U.S. sanctions ban the import of Russian-origin diamonds—without knowing the source, you can’t import legally. (2) Ethical sourcing matters—buying from unknown origins risks supporting blood diamonds. (3) You can add emotional value by offering diamonds, like those from Botswana, that support schools, hospitals, and clean water. You're not just selling a gem—you're selling its positive impact.

Where Can I Find GreenSource Diamonds?

The market for GreenSource diamonds is wide open, competitive and not exclusive to any one brand or supplier. Thousands are already listed on RapNet. Once certified, a diamond keeps its GreenSource status through every trade, just like a grading report. Suppliers pay a $2 GreenSource listing fee with online certificates available at additional cost.

Rapaport Ethical Sourcing Standard

The Rapaport Ethical Sourcing Standard (RESS) defines ethical standards for diamond sourcing.

Human Rights

No human rights violations involved in the mining or manufacture of the diamonds.

Community Benefit

The local communities where the diamonds are mined obtain reasonable compensation and benefit from the diamond revenue.

Transparency & Traceability

The legitimate source of money used to buy the rough diamonds from the mine and the legitimate destination where that money is received is known, documented and audited.

Ethical sourcing standards for pre-owned diamonds, gems and jewelry will be published shortly.

Rapaport Diamond Traceability Standard

The purpose of the Rapaport Traceability Standard (RTS) is to ensure the legitimate source of a diamond is properly documented from the rough diamond mine to the finished polished diamond.

Rough Scan by Mining Company

The physical rough diamond is scanned in an auditable manner by an ethically acceptable mining company and the scan is entered into an approved blockchain database. The scan must uniquely identify the rough diamond.

Rough Scan by Diamond Manufacturer

The physical rough diamond is scanned in an auditable manner by an ethically acceptable diamond manufacturer and the scan is entered into an approved blockchain database. The scan must uniquely identify the rough diamond and match with the original scan by the mining company.

Scanning the Production Process

The physical rough diamond is scanned a number of times during the manufacturing process by the ethically acceptable diamond manufacturer in such a manner that provides an auditable trail ensuring that the finished polished diamond(s) originated from the original rough diamond scanned by the manufacturer. The scanning may be a component of the manufacturer’s ERP systems that are independently audited and verified and uploaded to an approved blockchain.

Final Polished Diamond Scan

The physical finished polished diamond is scanned in an auditable manner by the ethically acceptable diamond manufacturer and the scan is entered into an approved blockchain database. The scan must uniquely identify the polished diamond.

Standards for the traceability of pre-owned diamonds, gems and jewelry are being developed.

There's a reason that God gave diamonds to the poorest people in the world and made the richest desire them. Bridging that gap is 'tikkun olam' - fixing the world.
That is why the diamond trading exists.
