Grandview Klein Diamonds and London Jewelers have revealed a 63-carat rough diamond they will transform into a 20.26-carat polished stone to mark London Jewelers’ 100th anniversary.

The companies showcased the rough diamond at a private event during JCK Las Vegas on May 29, Grandview Klein said last week. The dealer will cut the stone into an old mine cushion-cut, D-flawless diamond. A D-flawless natural diamond is among the rarest gemstones, combining perfect colorlessness with flawless clarity under 10x magnification, the company added.

Grandview Klein will cut the diamond in Botswana, its country of origin, as part of the Origin De Beers Group program. The platform will document every stage of the diamond’s journey from rough to polished.

The event included London Jewelers owners Mark and Candy Udell, Grandview Klein CEO Moshe Klein, De Beers CEO Al Cook, and Don Gaetsaloe, permanent secretary of Botswana’s Ministry of Minerals and Energy.

“For 100 years, London Jewelers has been built on craftsmanship, resilience, family, and relationships that span generations,” said Mark Udell. “What began as a modest storefront in Glen Cove [New York] has grown into something far greater than a jewelry business. This extraordinary diamond represents our history, our family, and the future still ahead of us.”

The Udell and Klein families have cultivated a close bond for decades, they said.

“To be entrusted with cutting a diamond of this importance in honor of London Jewelers’ centennial is one of the greatest honors of my lifetime,” Moshe Klein commented in Las Vegas. “There is deep history between our families, and with a stone like this, that trust means everything.”
