A ring with a 12.78-carat ruby took center stage at the recent Christie’s auction in Hong Kong, where it more than doubled its high estimate.
The piece, which features an oval-cut Burmese ruby in a surround of pear-shaped diamonds, led the Magnificent Jewels Online sale on December 5, fetching HKD 3 million ($391,529) against an upper estimate of HKD 1.2 million ($154,145).
In total, the auction raked in HKD 35.2 million ($4.5 million), with several pieces from famous houses such as Cartier, Harry Winston and Hermès finding buyers.
