Designs That Speak Volumes

Sybil and David Yurman: Artists and Jewelers is an unprecedented monograph and intimate biography examining the work and life of the jewelry power couple through original artworks, family photographs, personal texts, and archival materials, many of which have never been published.

The book features over 400 images, including original design sketches and behind-the-scenes campaign shots with the likes of models Kate Moss, Amber Valletta, Naomi Campbell, and Gisele Bündchen. Highlights include portraits of David Yurman’s iconic jewelry pieces and collaborations with renowned photographers and models.

Depicting the creation of the iconic Cable bracelet in 1983 and other renowned collections, the book’s visuals showcase the ways Sybil’s talents as a painter have influenced the colors and shapes of the brand’s collections, while the raw materials and welding processes of David’s sculptures have contributed form and movement.

The book captures the critical moments of the brand’s history over its 50 years, from its humble beginnings in the underground art scene in New York and California to its emergence on the global stage. Edited by Thierry-Maxime Loriot, the volume concludes with a section about the brand’s future as described by the couple’s son Evan, who now serves as president and chief creative officer at the company.

“We’ve always chosen to bring the expression of our creations through the lens of art,” says David. “All of our key players have been not just business partners, but creative collaborators.”

Adds Sybil: “We wanted to integrate art into lifestyle. We wanted to give jewelry a personality, a relaxed way of wearing it, both daytime and nighttime.”
